How Farmers Friend has Changed their Bow Sections Over the Years

Over the years, Farmers Friend has made adaptations to its bow design for caterpillar tunnels. Below is a review of that process, so that in the case a customer needs to make repairs, they can identify the correct replacement part.

First design

Our initial iteration was for the quonset (classic) shaped tunnel. The complete bow assembly was made up of two components: two side bow sections and one center bow section.

The two side bow sections were identical. It was a curved section that had a swaged or crimped end and a non-swaged end.

The one quonset center bow section was a curved section that was non-swaged on both ends.

Later, we designed a gothic shaped tunnel. The completed bow assembly was made up of two components: two side bow sections and one center bow section.

The two side bow sections were identical and were the exact same ones used for the quonset model. It was a curved section that had a swaged or crimped end and a non-swaged end.

The one gothic center bow section was a peaked section that was non-swaged on both ends.

Second design

The second iteration of the complete bow assembly for both the classic and gothic shaped tunnels were also made up of three sections. This is true for both the 14-ft and 16-ft wide caterpillar tunnels.

The classic tunnel shape utilized three side bow sections that were identical. It was a curved section that had a swaged or crimped end and a non-swaged end. The completed bow assembly had one end that was swaged, and the other end was non-swaged.

The gothic tunnel shape utilized two side bow sections that were identical. It was a curved section that had a swaged or crimped end and a non-swaged end.

The gothic center bow section was a peaked section that was swaged on one end and non-swaged on the other. The completed bow assembly had one end that was swaged, and the other end was non-swaged.

The third design was not a new one, but a return to the original design. This is true for both the 14-ft and 16-ft wide caterpillar tunnels.
